Our Process

Consultation

A roundtable meeting where we discuss the vision and budget you have for your home, as well as the Urban ATX aesthetic, custom design build process and timeline.  We ensure working together is a good fit for all involved.

Determine Building Site

If you have land on which you want to build your home, our team will evaluate the site feasibility.  This can include removing existing structures.  Most of our clients need to purchase a lot. Our team works closely with area real estate agents who are well-versed in the Austin market and can help you find a lot for your dream home that will match your location preference and budget.

Design Phase

With the land survey in hand, we move into the design phase.  Urban ATX works closely with design-forward architects who help you achieve your vision while staying within budget — resulting in a home that suits your needs and lifestyle perfectly.

City Approval

After submitting the design plan to the city to ensure it meets all code and zoning requirements of your lot, we receive our building permit which is the green light to break ground for your new home!

Construction

The Urban ATX construction team oversees every phase of building your approved design.  Updates are provided to you each step of the way so you can relax and enjoy the process.

Move-In

We value our clients and look forward to the exciting final walk-through. There is nothing quite like receiving the keys to a home that has been custom designed and built just for you!

FAQs

What is the price per square foot?

There are many factors that determine this, such as the topography of your lot, the overall size of your home, the number of floors, interior and exterior features, and quality of finishes. When we know the general layout of your home, the quality of finish items you envision, and your budgetary goals, we will walk you through the budget process. Completed Urban ATX homes typically range from $800 to $1,500 per square foot.

What does design build mean?

It is a seamless process where a team works together in designing and constructing a home. We work closely with architects on every home during the design phase and because of this, no two Urban ATX homes are alike. Each house is different and unique, offering a different visual and living experience.

Where in Austin will you build?

As Austin custom home builders, our market focus is the Central Austin area including downtown, Clarksville, Tarrytown, Travis Heights, Bouldin Creek, Zilker, Barton Hills and Westlake Hills.

What are the finance options?

A construction loan is typically required for custom builds. We have several lenders that we have established relationships with and can assist you through the process.

When can we move in? How long does the build take?

The design build process typically takes 12-18 months. Designing your dream home will require 3-6 months on average, working directly with our team and the architect to create plans for your dream home.  Plans must then be approved by the city which is dependent upon the schedule of the Building Plan Review office.  Construction begins after city-approved final plans are received from the architect.  Complexity of the lot, weather conditions, subcontractor availability and supply chain factors contribute to the amount of time required for construction to be completed.

Do I need to hire an architect and interior designer?

No, because we partner with select architects and designers who understand the Urban ATX design aesthetic and will work with you to combine your vision and desires with that.
